A Piece Of Cake Makes Its Grand Debut
50 concepts. 2 executions each. 100 reasons to get started with your next dessert masterpiece. A Piece Of Cake is a comprehensive dessert cookbook that features both the rustic and beginner-friendly as well as the more modern and advanced.
Last April 10, the book, A Piece Of Cake by renowned pastry chefs Miko Aspiras and Aileen Anastacio, was finally unveiled at The Diamond Hotel in Pasay City.
Guests were first treated to an exciting live demo featuring the two versions of the New York Cheesecake on the book cover. The demo was then followed by a special afternoon tea time buffet. The highlight of the event was the dessert buffet featuring a selection of delectable pastries found in the book. Guests also had the chance to have their copies signed by the chefs during the event.
For Chef Miko Aspiras, the idea for the book has always been in the back burner, “I wanted to create a cookbook that will feature recipes in two executions: homey and approachable, and the other, modern and avant-garde. I always thought of doing it on my own, but a chance meeting with Aileen during a brand event in Boracay made me consider her as my partner for this dream project.” He recalls fondly, “I have always known her from her cakes and confections I enjoyed as a kid. When I finally found the chance to speak to her, I wasted no time and did a pitch of my concept.”
On Chef Aileen Anastacio’s part, it undoubtedly seemed like the timing was right. “I was due to write another book. While the last one was a real hit, that was still back in 2012. Miko approached me with the concept laid out, and I thought it was a great opportunity for a collaboration.” She muses, “We set up several meetings to flesh the idea further. When we were finally set on what we wanted to do, Miko and I started scouring for a team.”
